A Seat at the Table: Black Women Building Our Own Access and Taking the Space We Deserve
Share
Who's ready to take a seat? I sure am! In a world that demands so much of us with little in return, it's no surprise that eventually Black women will begin to carve out our own spaces and pull up our own seat, rather than to sit in spaces that historically denied us. Since recognizing avenues where we can thrive, Black women have continued to utilize tools to creatively design, build, and find unique ways to maneuver ourselves into positions of power.
There have been many areas in corporate industries and in business where Black women have faced pushback on showing up as our full selves because it wasn't fully understood, so it wasn’t fully embraced. Encounters became daily acts of dressing up as performative characters that didn’t truly support our true, authentic selves.
This movement isn’t about inclusion at a table – it's about creating an entirely new table. However, the journey that comes with forging new paths isn’t a one-stop destination. Ambition at times leads to over-exhaustion and burn-out. We’re here to remind Black women that walking the path of success, doesn’t mean walk it alone or without breaks.
For Black women who have often been told to push through exhaustion, this platform offers a much-needed space to recharge, reflect, and be reminded that rest is just as important as hustle. It’s less about individual achievements, but an invitation to join a community where Black women can honor their journey without guilt, recognizing that their success is not just about the destination, but about the process of healing and thriving along the way.
At Black Girl Mugs, you’re encouraged to pull up a seat to our table, grab a mug, and join us for a moment of rest.
Let’s sip in style, together!
We're providing a space to amplify stories of Black women breaking barriers across the globe. Whether you want to share your success, or shed light to your truth, submit your story to our Little Black Book to be featured on our weekly Tea Time newsletter!
